a blanket - even in summer? when the guys from tcb were making some blanket lined jackets again they looked at the lining and thought it’s a shame to keep this beautiful pattern hidden away, just as an inner layer. so the idea came up of the inside-out stripe tee.

nice idea, but just recreating the color pattern ended up looking like a cartoonish stripe like drawn in 2-d, failing to capture the textural depth and yarn irregularities characteristic of vintage blankets.

when tcb consulted the fabric manufacturer about this dilemma, they suggested a technique called inlay knitting. inlay knitting involves inserting a separate yarn horizontally between the loops of the base fabric structure. by running yarns of specific colors and thicknesses as inlays, tcb was able to go beyond merely reproducing the pattern; they successfully captured the raised yarn effects and three-dimensional quality of the original vintage blanket. it has a unique character that gives it the look of a sweater.
