undyed fabric is surprisingly common in vintage workwear. the reason for this likely wasn't a matter of trends or aesthetics, but simply because of cost down. however, it's fascinating how a simple change in color can make workwear look surprisingly elegant.

the ecru cat face pants are tcb’s undyed take on the us army m-35 denim trousers from the late 1930s. the pants feature a wide, relaxed silhouette with a high rise and are made in kojima from a 10oz, beautifully irregular denim woven from recycled cotton.

recycled cotton inevitably results in a coarser yarn, as cotton that has already been spun into yarn is spun into yarn once again. for tcb, however, the resulting irregularity was exactly what they were looking for - it is what gives the fabric such an authentic feel and evokes the atmosphere of that era so strongly.

although the fabric has been sanforized, the amount of water used in the process has deliberately been kept to a minimum. as a result, the denim retains a certain raw character and has a distinctly uneven, rough surface texture. an anti-twist treatment has also been applied, allowing the fabric to naturally twist and develop its own shape as you wear it.

this is not a uniform, perfectly finished denim, but a fabric that is intentionally somewhat rough and imperfect. yet this very imperfection was a necessity born from the conditions and limitations of the time. and that is precisely why tcb feels that this denim still has such a distinctive and timeless appeal today.
