studio d'artisan | 5689u distressed indigo sashiko shirt
this great sashiko shirt by studio d'artisan is based on an old american work shirt and is made in japan from a heavy dobby cotton fabric. the double face fabric - commonly referred to as "sashi-ori" - "swells" up quite a bit after washing, giving an almost 3-dimensional and texture aesthetic to the shirt. sashiko was originally a sewing technique used to repair well-worn sections of traditional kimonos and workwear, but it was also used early on to decorate garments with patterns. the heavy shirt - almost jacket - was dyed indigo and then washed several times for an already-worn vintage look.
