studio d'artisan | 4569u distressed indigo sashiko coverall
this great sashiko work jacket by studio d'artisan is made in japan from a heavy dobby cotton fabric. the double face fabric - commonly referred to as "sashi-ori" - "swells" up quite a bit after washing, giving an almost 3-dimensional and texture aesthetic to the shirt. sashiko was originally a sewing technique used to repair well-worn sections of traditional kimonos and workwear, but it was also used early on to decorate garments with patterns. the jacket was dyed indigo and then washed several times for an already-worn vintage look.
