the real mccoy's | type ma-1 real mccoy mfg. co.
the ma-1 is a true masterpiece of the us air force. as the successor to the b-15 series in the 1950s, the ma-1 was used by the u.s. air force and navy for over three decades, becoming one of the most legendary flight jackets of the 20th century.
the version by real mccoy's is a faithful reproduction of the second model with the specification number j-8279a which was produced by three contractors in 1957: albert turner, lauren sportswear, and topps apparel. compared to the previous model, in addition to “cosmetic” modifications such as the rounded wind flap, the main improvements were made to the construction and sewing specifications (e.g., flat felled seams). the jacket is made in japan from type 6 nylon, features a cotton-wool pile interlining for warmth, authentic wool ribbing at the cuffs and hem, and period-correct brass dot buttons. an absolute (style) icon.
