these strictly limited edition combat boots by john lofgren are made in japan from black shinki hikaku shell cordovan. shinki hikaku is a small japanese tannery specialising in high-quality horse leather, particularly shell cordovan, and known for its traditional six-month vegetable tanning process.

shell cordovan is a rare, extremely high-quality and durable leather obtained from the shell-shaped skin areas on the back of horses. it is characterized by a dense fibre structure, high fat content, extreme durability, suppleness and natural water resistance. only a relatively large animal can produce enough shell cordovan to make one pair of shoes, which explains the relatively high price of the leather.

the combat boot is john lofgren's take on the classic m-42 cap-toe military boot worn by american gi’s in world war ii. while faithfully reproducing such distinctive details as the unique toe caps and decorative broguing, john lofgren’s combat boots are also updated to meet the needs of contemporary life. like all their footwear, the uppers are beautifully executed by a master japanese craftsman that has been sewing their uppers from the very beginning. and of course, these boots are also completely built in japan.
