the a-1 flight jacket is a true classic. it was introduced in 1927 for usaac (united states army air corps) pilots and was produced for four years only before being replaced by the a-2 flight jacket. the original a-1 flight jackets were made from sheepskin, but many different types of leather were used during the transition from type a-1 to a-2. the buzz rickson's a-1 is based on a vintage original jacket and is made in japan from vegetable-tanned horsehide that has been hand-finished with aniline dyes by artisans, giving the jacket a beautifully uneven look.
