buzz rickson's | br80647 type an-j-3a buzz rickson co. inc. horsehide model
the an-j-3a flight jacket was developed in the mid-1940s as the successor to the m-422a and was originally intended for joint use by the us navy and army air forces. while the air forces chose the cotton b-10, the navy in particular adopted this model. in 1946, the an-j-3a was manufactured by willis & geiger co., a manufacturer known for its high quality.
what makes this version special is the horse leather used, which contrasts with the goat leather usually used for the g-1 series, making it a rarity. additional characteristic details include the collar marked “us,” the large flaps pocket and the typical wool cuffs on the sleeves and hem.
a jacket with authentic vintage character that impressively reflects the history of american flight jackets.
