the black br80597 g-1 jacket by buzz rickson's is part of the "type black" militaria cooperation.with science fiction novelist william gibson. gibson designed a fictional black ma-1 jacket from buzz rickson's for his protagonist in his book "pattern recognition", and the idea for an all-black collection was born.
the us navy g-1 flight jacket was introduced in the 1940s and was initially called m-422 before being renamed in g-1 in 1950. the jacket is based on the type a-2 with its characteristic pockets and ribbed cuffs, but it additionally features movement pleats on the back and a warming lambskin collar. the buzz rickson's x william gibson version is made in japan from butter-soft, black teacore goatskin. over time, the jacket develops a unique patina when the brown core comes through in the exposed areas.
