buzz rickson's | br15723 type m-1943 “buzz rickson mfg. co.” hand paint "dragon & lady"
during world war 2, creativity flourished among us soldiers, who treated the backs of their uniforms like canvases. motifs often included their aircraft, the area of operations and the associated culture, pictures of girlfriends who had stayed at home, and pin-up girls from magazines. the painting on the back of this jacket probably shows the wearer's girlfriend at home and his strong attachment to his service in okinawa, which is reflected in the depiction of asian mythical creatures such as dragons as sublime beauties.
the m-1943 field jacket was the successor to the m-41 jacket. buzz rickson's reproduced this jacket based on an old m-1943 in a durable and water-repellent cotton sateen. the jacket has a relatively loose fit and features 4 large pockets on the front and a detachable hood. the buttons on the placket and pocket flap are covered, so you can't get caught even if you're wearing a backpack or other gear over it.
