buzz rickson's | br15536 souvenir jacket
souvenir jackets - also known as “sukajan” - originated in the 1950s, when american soldiers stationed in japan after world war 2 began having traditional japanese designs hand-stitched into the back of their jackets to remind them of their time in japan. popular designs included japanese-style dragons, cherry blossoms and trees.
buzz rickson's version is based on an original vintage jacket worn by a certain chuck, a soldier in the 334th flying squadron stationed in japan during the korean war. like the original this version is reversible. the outside is velvet with embroidered f-86 and kite details, the inside is silver quilted acetate with embroidered tigers and a map of japan.
