this type deck a-2 jacket by buzz rickson's is an exact reproduction of a vintage jacket from the 1960s. the a-2 deck jacket was adopted in the first half of the 1960s as a successor model of the n-1, a jacket for cold weather to protect deck crew working on the deck. while the standard color for the officially adopted a-2 deck jacket is olive drab, this jacket was made for civilian use and thus is a navy color unlike that for military use. perhaps because many of the jackets and coats formally issued to the u.s. navy have a navy color as a show of pride, this jacket too has the orthodox style of such accessories issued to the military.
