the neckerchief, men's, knitted by the real mccoy's, is a faithful reproduction of a neckerchief that became part of the standard equipment of the us army shortly after the start of the vietnam war. inspired by the neckerchiefs worn by australian combat units, it was made from t-shirt material using a robust double-knit technique and then tested in combat by the 1st infantry division for 1-2 months. the feedback from the “testers” was consistently positive: the scarf kept sweat at bay, provided important sun protection during the day, and protected against insects at night.
