the 5400 sweatshirt by pbj is made in japan from a beautiful sumi ink dyed cotton fabric that is woven slowly without tension, making it very soft and comfortable to wear. sumi ink is traditionally used in japanese calligraphy and is - strictly speaking - not an ink at all, but a molded block of fermented pinewood, glue and perfume. the blocks are often aged for years before they’re put to water to create the ink bath for dyeing. this is truly a labor of love and passion that turns out a truly unique sweatshirt.
