studio d'artisan | 4599 kakishibu ma-1 flight jacket
great kakishibu dyed ma-1 flight jacket from studio d’artisan. the kakishibu dyeing process has a deep-rooted history in japanese traditional craft culture, dating back to the early 13th century. for this, the skins of unripe persimmons (or persimmons) are used to give the fabric an earthy, autumnal orange hue. over time, the jacket’s rich tones will fade much in the way of your favourite pair of jeans.
for this jacket, studio d'artisan used a persimmon dye that has been aged for over three years. each individual jacket was dyed by hand: dipped in the dye, then wrung out once or twice and dried on the line, before the same process was repeated 7-8 times to achieve the final brown tone.
