the sws-sc01 japanese cotton made sweatshirt by samurai jeans from japan is everything but basic. the heavyweight fabric is woven in wakayama on old looms, using an uneven #10 yarn spun in the same way as the brand's 17oz “zero” denim.
the "samurai cotton project" is a heart project of samurai founder toru nogami with the objective to produce completely made in japan garments from seed to stitch. growing your own organic cotton in japan sounds like a simple enough idea, but it’s been extremely difficult in practice. in 2013, after almost 5 years of painstaking experimentation, the first pair of jeans made from samurai’s own cotton. samurai cotton is planted, weeded and harvested by hand, without any use of fertilisers or pesticides. even if the cultivation is immensely time-consuming and only a limited amount of cotton can be produced, the result is always worth it.
this kuromame version is dyed with black soybeans from hyogo in a small dyeing workshop located in sasayama.
