the duffle coat is a true classic. it has its origins in the belgian town of duffelzandhoven, where sailors' coats have been made from duffel - a thick, strong, black wool - since the 17th century. a short time later, the heavy woollen coat found its way to england, where it became known as the duffle coat and was standard equipment for royal navy sailors until the second world war.
the “pat” duffle coat by allevol is a faithful reproduction of a coat from the 1960s that was issued to general post office (gpo) workers at the time. it is made in the uk from 32oz heavyweight, durable melton wool woven in the bishu region of japan and features two large pockets, the traditional button placket with toggle closure and a detachable hood.
