y'2 leather | kakishibu horse work boots (ks-02)
these beautiful service boots by y’2 leather are made in japan from y'2's proprietary natural horsehide leather. the leather is tanned and dyed with persimmons which is called kakishibu dyeing. this is a traditional japanese dyeing technique that uses aged persimmon tannins. this dye is highly photosensitive, areas exposed to light will get darker and richer in tone and thus the boots will age faster than most natural veg-tan leathers. but even right from the start, the leather is perfectly imperfect, with visible markings and variations in the leather that are innate characteristics of natural leathers.
