buzz rickson's | br15514 type l-2a ‘superior togs corp. orange rib’ 13. ftr. intcp.sq.
the type l-2a was introduced in 1951 during the korean war as the successor to the l-2, the first flight jacket to use nylon instead of leather as its main fabric. the l-2a also replaced olive with blue as its color, which was intended to underline the new independence of the u.s. air force from the u.s. army.
buzz rickson's version is a faithful reproduction of an old original jacket from back in the day and is made in japan from lightweight but durable nylon fabric and lined with a blend of 50% wool and 50% nylon. the jacket features patches of the 13th fighter-interceptor squadron and its unit number and motto “none shall execute them”. the 13th fighter-interceptor squadron is an inactive unit of the u.s. air force since 1968. it was activated in 1941 as a defense squadron for the southeast area around florida and participated in the air defense of the panama canal from 1941 to 1943.
