boncoura | 66 jeans black
although founded in 2011 already, the japanese jeans label boncoura is mostly known only to the absolute denim aficionados. but those who already know the brand and its jeans are invariably thrilled. the designs are influenced by vintage levi’s jeans, but they are not strict reproductions, and include subtle modern detailing.
the "66" is boncoura’s take on an old levi's 501 from 1966-1971. the jean has a comfortably mid-high rise, roomy thigh and slightly tapered leg opening. the beautiful black 15oz selvedge denim has a smooth but quite uneven texture due to the unique weaving method. the warp has been black sumi-dyed to create a tasteful charcoal look. with time and wear the denim will age to a contrasted monochrome look revealing the lighter undyed core of the yarns and weft.
